Fabric a thin, flexible sheet material usually made from woven or knitted textiles
Fabrication making something from materials
Fat found in meat, milk, butter and cheese
Feedback taking part of the signal from the output and passing it back to the input
Felt a textile fabric made by compressing woollen fibres into a single sheet
Ferrous  containing iron
Fibre (1) a fine thread: most textile fabrics are composed of fibres that have been spun into thicker yarns which are then woven or knitted
Fibre (2) a food ingredient derived from plants
File a tool for removing burs from freshly sawn metal or plastic

Finishing methods used to make the surface of wood, metal and plastic smooth and resistant to moisture; these usually involve the use of abrasive papers and polish or varnish.
Fitness for purpose a criteria used to evaluate how well a product performs the function for which it was designed.
Fixings things used to fix materials together, e.g. nails, screws, nuts and bolts
Flame retardent a chemical protection for fabric to resist combustion
Flavour the sensations detected by the tongue which give food its taste
Flexible  easily bent or pliable
Flowchart a way of planning how to carry out a task by drawing a sequence of boxes joined by arrows. Each box contains a short statement about one stage

Flux a paste or resin that prevents oxides from forming when soldering or brazing
Foam materials that contain lots of air bubbles -  Expanded polystyrene is a plastic foam that comes as rigid lightweight sheets, blocks or moulded shapes. It is used for packaging. Plastazote is foam that comes as a thin flexible sheet. It is easy to cut. You can use it for both decorative and structural purposes.
Focused task

task which has a clearly defined outcome

Follower usually a slider or lever that is moved by a cam or an eccentric
Former a pattern around which materials can be formed or shaped
Font a particular style or design of lettering

FONT

Food Hygiene the standards of cleanliness necessary when dealing with food as a material for design and technology.
Food Sensitivity some people are particularly sensitive to certain foods and may have an allergy. This is important in preparing work in food technology
Found Materials materials available from discarded objects; often packaging e.g. washing up bottles, shampoo bottles, cereal packets; sometimes referred to as reclaimed materials
Framework a structure assembled from long thin parts called members e.g. a pylon or girder bridge.

Freehand Drawing a drawing produced by hand without using rules or straight edges
Freeze dry removing moisture by freezing
Friction the grip produced when two surfaces rub against one another
Frequency

the number of cycles per second. Measured in hertz (Hz)

Fulcrum the point of support, around which a lever moves
Function what a product does or how it works
